It’s two o’clock and your stomach is beginning to growl. Your mind wanders. You’ve been so busy lately that you have no idea what’s in your fridge let alone what you should cook for dinner tonight.

On these days you usually swing by the store on the way home from work to pick something up. But not tonight. The stress of figuring out what to eat is too much. You’re going to DoorDash takeout instead. By the time you get home your dinner is already there waiting for you.

If you often find yourself in this position you’re not alone. According to one survey, 35% of American households figure out what they’re having for dinner just a few hours before it’s supposed to be served.

Busyness is the likely culprit. We’re all busy for myriad reasons: kids, work, social engagements, etc. But when you don’t know what’s on the dinner menu, it can be easy to fall into the convenience trap, eliminating the stress of having to make a decision altogether.

With inflation skyrocketing, the cost of food is top of mind for many Americans. Since 2020, the weekly trip to the grocery store has gone up by nearly 26%. Wages? Not so much.

Even though inflation is technically cooling, don’t expect prices to come back down anytime…
