When most people try to determine whether or not the economy is about to enter a recession they check for three things: an inversion of the bond yield curve, confirmation from the Chairman of the Fed, and a speculative Tweet from someone of presumed financial authority like Elon Musk.

Aside from the opinions of the financial elites running the country, there are worrying signs of impending economic collapse. Unlike the Global Financial Crisis of 2008, which was the result of overleveraged working class American homeowners, this upcoming crisis will impact equally overleveraged white collar educated professionals.

During the last economic crisis, displaced workers found refuge in the Ivy Towers of America’s universities. Instead of fighting for their place in the workforce, they weathered the storm under the safety of obtaining an advanced education. They didn’t reskill they simply made themselves more qualified for job functions they were already performing.
